Featured Esty Shop: Bibu

OK so you know how much we love upcycled/recycled stuff over here and how much we love vintage!  So a collaboration with Bibu for our Vintage Sesame Street Giveaway was a no brainer!  If you’ve entered the giveaway you’ll recognize this cute Sesame Street Bib made out of vintage Sesame Street fabric:

Andrea, the owner of Bibu, says she’s “always been what I’d call a compulsive maker [in a goodway]”. As you can tell from her shop, textiles are her medium of choice and she has “a particular weakness” for vintage fabrics. Andrea is an internationally exhibited textile artist who holds an MFA degree with a concentration in Fibres from Concordia University in Montreal. With a background in the visual arts, she’s always been drawn to children’s illustrations and pop culture references, so vintage kid’s bed linens with their bright and pop-y graphics are something that she gravitates towards quite naturally.  Check out this beautiful vintage blanket patchwork baby quilt:

I know what I’m getting Dee for her “big girl” bed! LOVE this!

Before she had children she did a lot of artwork using reclaimed textiles, but when she finally had kids she wanted a more practical way to utilize the fabrics that she loved. That’s how Bibu was born. Her primary product is vintage fabric bibs (which are SO cute) and, of course, SO popular.  We could die over this Star Wars bib:

“The force is strong with this one”. (Yeah I know I’m SUCH a nerd, but really when else was I going to be able to work that quote into this blog?).

She takes any custom requests to do bibs with particular characters on them so if you don’t see what you’re looking for make sure to convoy her (definitely check out her Rainbow Brite bib – ah, nostalgia!). After  you’ve spent the time picking out a cute outfit for your baby, it seems a shame to cover it up with an ugly bib. Shopping at Bibu will let you have a bib as fun and cute as the outfit it is protecting :).

But you now what? Her talents don’t stop at baby items.  She also designs cool textiles for the home.  Like this awesome TV Pattern throw pillow:

So hip and cool!

and these coasters made from the same vintage sesame street fabric:

Andrea lives just north of Toronto with her husband and two small boys, and blogs almost daily at fingerthumb.typepad.com.  So go check out her blog and her etsy shop Bibu. If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a hundred times, support handmade and custom!
