Here’s to the Dads

Here’s to all the dad’s out there who have made us all the people we are today.  I know Ash and I are super lucky to have a fabulous dad in our lives and to have fabulous dads for our babies now that we’re grown.   It’s amazing how much a dad can build you into the person you are and what minute silly details make the most difference in your life.  So in honor of Father’s Day I thought I’d share my favorite memory of my dad (well among many but this one just showed he cared).

Remember in high school when it was someones birthday and they got called to the principals office for a special birthday delivery? Everyone would be so intrigued by what they’d walk back through the doors to the classroom holding and awed by how many people loved them!  Not everyone was lucky enough to have parents that would deliver something special on their birthdays but my dad would always make at least one delivery for us during the day.  When we returned from the office it was always with a bouquet of roses in our twin colors – purple for me and pink for Ashley.  I’m not sure why this sticks in my mind so clearly as a favorite memory of my dad but I think it’s because it really set the bar for the men I would date in the future.  We were taught from a young age that it was the thoughtful gifts that made a difference, not necessarily the expensive ones.  You know, that perfect gift that shows the person really knows you?  I think that’s what those flowers always symbolized, that Dad had known us from the very beginning when we dressed in all pink and purple and he still loved us regardless of our poor fashion sense.  It was an “inside” gift and it always meant the world to me.

We love you Dad!

Featured Etsy Shop: Spice of Life

If you’re a foodie then you’re probably obsessed with spices.  And high quality, organic spices can cost their weight in gold but Spice of Life provides these spices at a very reasonable price.  You’ll recognize this shop from our Father’s Day giveaway where one lucky winner will get to give their dad Spice of Life‘s magnetic BBQ Dry Rub Kit:

Summer BBQs here we come!

But you should really go and check out all of Tami’s fabulous herbs, teas, sugars and salts!  My favorite is the Chai tea kit (have I told you how obsessed Dee and I are with Chai tea? It’s a little ridiculous).

Ah I would just love starting my morning off with this set!

And of course since we spend half of our year in China the Asian herb and spices kit and the Flower Blossom Tea kit would be right at home with us in our Asian apartment:

I LOVE this picture, it really reminds me of the Asian zen gardens. Asian Herb & Spice Kit from Spice of Life.

Tea is a “go-to” in this house and we start off almost every morning with it. I love floral teas as dessert teas though! Yum!  Flower Blossom Tea Kit from Spice of Life.

Tami really does have something for everyone though.  You can get gourmet sugars and sea salts or even make your own kit from the spices she has available in her shop.

DIY Easter Decorations

So we’re all prepping for fabulous Easter Sundays and that means having some fabulous Easter decorations.

Here are some of the best DIY from the blog world:

Pastel colored glass

Use the colors of spring to inspire your table settings, or if you’re having a hard time visualizing go to Inspiration Home for ideas!

Pastel tables with tulips

Of course Martha also usually has some great picks .  Did you notice the bowls filled with jellybeans, grapes, and lemon drops?  I like the idea of mixed jelly beans as center pieces too!

Monochromed egg basket center piece with a touch of pussy willow.

For an eye catching center piece put those dyed eggs to good use by making a monochromed egg basket center piece in the color you choose (Digs Digs actually has many ideas).  Or if your going eclectic and colorful mix all the colors together.

Plastic Easter Eggs into toy teacups!

Don’t leave the littles out!  Their table can be so cute and a little “Alice and Wonderland-y” with these cute toy teacups and some large flowers for the back of chairs!

Large paper flowers hung on the backs of chairs

Paint sample Easter Egg Garland

If you’re pressed for time to decorate just drop by the hardware store and steal a few paint sample cards to string together this cute Easter Egg garland in your house.

Cupcake wrapper wreath! So clever!

Most of us hardly have time to make an egg wreath at this point but this easy cupcake wrapper wreath is SO cute and SO cheap!

Hope these quickies help anyone whose been lagging on the decoration front!
