Fashion Friday: Dee & Meg PDX Days

It’s Fashion Friday!

We’ve been incredibly bad about posting while I’ve been up here.  What have we been doing with our time you ask?  Well taking care of the kiddos!  And making lots of wedding preparations.  We’ve actually been cooking a ton, which we will be sharing those posts.  But somehow everything else has flown out of the window (except making onesies or children’s tees).

We finally pulled together Fashion Friday!  Hopefully we’ll be a lot better at this in the near future.  Here are Meg and Dee . . . just hanging out at the house this afternoon. :)

We’ll be posting some stuff we’ve been making for the wedding- some more DIY and some cute dress pics?

Have a great weekend!  Hope you forgive us of our tardiness!

ENJOY! ash

Wednesday Wants: DIY cupcake stand

Mixed florals 70s cupcake stand

So I’ve toyed around with starting a “Pinterest to Realist” series here since we’re doing so many DIY for our wedding in t-minus 3 weeks and counting! Yikes!  We’re having a desert table with a variety of pot-luck-style deserts (my Portland friends have graciously agreed to make a plate full of goodies each).  Which means I have to figure out how to display that many deserts!  I saw this on etsy:

Fresh Pastry Stand has some amazing pieces – her stuff is just gorgeous!

And instantly wanted one but on our small budget just couldn’t afford the price tag on this beautiful piece so I started on my journey to making one of my own.  But if you don’t have the 30 minutes + thrifting time to do the project than by all means just buy one of the pre-made pieces from Fresh Pastry Stand on etsy.

Materials List:

  • 1 x cake stand handle fittings  ($2.99 on ebay)
  • 1 x ceramic drill bit for the size of your cake stand fittings ($10)
  • 3 x vintage plates in 3 sizes from your local thrift store (we got all of ours from the bins for a whooping $2.50)
  • Masking tape or painting tape
  • ruler

Instructions:

  • Make and X in the middle of the plates with your masking tape (to reinforce when you drill)

  • Measure your plate and mark a dot for the center on your blue tape
  • Drill a hole with your ceramic drill bit.  Using a teaspoon of water once the hole is started helps keep temp down and helps the drill bit grip.  I drilled on my lawn so the bit could go through and not ruin anything but it still allowed the plate to be supported.
  • Assemble the plates with the cake stand fittings; screw on underside of plate, metal washer, plastic washer, bottom plate, plastic washer, first tier level fitting, plastic washer, middle plate, plastic washer, second tier level fitting, plastic washer, top plate, plastic washer, top handle.

  • Tighten and enjoy.

See? Easy Peasy.  We didn’t bother with matching plates to carefully because we had collected a few florals plates for the desert table and I only belated decided to try this.  I’m so pleased with how it looks though! Especially my little 70s one.

Fashion Friday: Little Boys Graphic Tees

It’s fashion friday!

It’s funny, both Meg and I are transitioning right.  I’m right in the middle of figuring our my graduate school acceptance and starting summer classes.  Meg just got back from her 3-4 month stay in China for her PHD work, which is why our posts have been a little light(not our usual) as of late.  I thought it would be fun to share with you my favorite thing right now for Jax . . .

GRAPHIC TEES

We’ve pretty much transitioned to using only t-shirts and pants/shorts for Jax.  I find using two pieces easier with a squirmy one year old who won’t lay on his back for anything anymore . . . not even changing a diaper.  It’s a game of finding something that will occupy him while I change his diaper (or his clothes) or I’m chasing after him with a diaper, which he loves being chased.

I’ve found a lot of cute tees at target, old navy, carter’s, and of course WE MAKE THEM!  I shared with you some of our recent creations last week.  If you have a shirt that you want upcycled to a cute baby, toddler, or children’s tee, contact us at our shop or via email  for details.  Here are a few cute ones I found that I’m eying for Jax:

i actually bought this one in Target for really cheap, like $5.

This is supper cute. Love the bright neon color, which is totally popular this summer. Carter’s Tee – $10.50

ummm . . . don’t mom’s rock! of course they do. :) Carter’s Tee – $6

back of the above shirt.

So you get the idea . . . :)  We sometimes go through a couple shirts a day.  What can I say – Jax plays like a little boy, plus he’s learning to eat like a big kid.  So we are both messy often!

Have a great weekend!

ENJOY! ash

Featured Esty Seller: Bumble C

If you couldn’t tell, we’re big fans of handmade over here at tumblewee.  We constantly surf etsy for unique creations and finding Bumble Cs’ beautiful shop was such a stroke of luck for us!  We’re absolutely in LOVE with this oh-so-feminine shop and all the lovely creations in it. Like these Miranda covered button earrings:

I love these covered button earrings!

Ashley wore her lovely pair of “Grace” lace earrings for last Friday Fashion post.  And though each pair is made from vintage lace so you aren’t able to buy these EXACT earrings, here are their cousins:

Vintage lace earrings: Rose

If you want to have a truly unique matching necklace try pairing the Rose earrings with Bumble C’s Lucile vintage lace necklace:

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful statement necklaces I've ever seen!

Angela is a full time student and part time crafter who loves to create whenever she can find the time.  We think she must manage to find plenty of time because she has so many beautiful creations!! Like these Cinnamon hair clips:

I'm picturing a flowy, vintage lace dress and soft curls held back by these lovely hair clips. A future Fashion Friday perhaps . . .

Add this Eileen peony ring to complete the romantic look:

So pretty!

We asked Angela to describe her inspiration and she told us, “I’m inspired by anything feminine, soft, vintage, and classic. I really got my start when I was planning my wedding, and realized I had a love for lace! I try to create pieces that are versatile so they can go from casual day to a night on the town, but are showstoppers at any time.”
After seeing her lovely creations, I’m sure you’ll agree that she describes her jewelery beautifully!

So if your the romantic or vintage type, go and check out her stuff and support handmade uniqueness.
